The impulse to make altarpieces of the sacred feminine rose seemingly out of the blue; however, years of devotion underlay it. I have merged the Madonnas in deep-space imagery (provided by NASA and Hubble), and with my nature photos (mostly indigenous flowers), thus symbolically bridging heaven and earth.
The altarpieces are printed on museum-quality Hahnemuhle paper, using archival inks. There are times when the print machine cannot read the full colour range as the blues especially go into orbit! I have experimented with printing on glass, metal and perspex to retain maximum luminosity, but thus far the cotton paper has worked the best.
